What is Organic?

Organics

‘Organic’ is a term used for foods and products that are grown, processed and produced in a natural way, in tune with nature and without the use of synthetic chemicals.

That means when you consume an organic product it has:

  • No synthetic pesticides
  • No synthetic herbicides
  • No preservatives or additives
  • No Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s or GE)
  • No Irradiation

When referring to organic products we often tend to purely think of food but an organic lifestyle encompasses everything from what we eat, to what we wear, to how and where we live.

Another 12 Reasons to GO ORGANIC

  1. No Additives. Organic food is free from additives and preservatives that can cause a variety of health problems, ranging from heart disease to hyperactivity.
  2. Organic food is the real price of real food, paid now (not later in environmental and health costs). Organic food isn't a luxury - it's how food is meant to be". Shane Heaton, Nutritionist
  3. Avoids Pesticides.  Organic products are grown without the use of pesticides. That means chemicals regularly used in farming will not find their way onto your dinner plate.
  4. "Fresh air, clean water, healthy soil and food is everyone's birthright; the philosophy behind organic gardening sustains these rights". - Jerry Coleby-Williams, Horticultural Expert, TV presenter
  5. No GM. Genetically modified crops and ingredients are not allowed under strict organic guidelines.
  6. "It is of the utmost importance to be continuously conscious of what we ‘feed' ourselves - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I am passionate about all things which are: natural, biological, alive". Kylie Kwong, Chef & Author
  7. High Standards. Organic produce comes from trusted sources with organic farms and food sources being regularly inspected.
  8. "Why organic? To serve our bodies, to preserve our skin and to conserve the environment." Carla Oates, Author
  9. It's Good for the Environment. Lower pollution from sprays means less carbon dioxide, the gas primarily related to global warming.
  10. "Choose the goodness of organics to nourish our children in this the 21st century. Eat, drink, bathe, dress, paint, grow organics, and nurture the world for generations to come."Catriona Macmillan, The Organics Directory
  11. It tastes better. Many people prefer organic produce because of its fresh taste. Numerous Australian chefs are choosing organic produce to maximise the flavour of their cooking.
  12. "There's no question that, when it comes to agriculture - and its future on our planet, we really need to think carefully about how our food is grown and produced. And it's really important to talk about these things. Organic food production offers a vital contribution towards a safer, more, sustainable food future." Joanna Savill, Journalist, TV presenter
