BFA's Organic School Gardens program is unique in that it is provided free to all Australian schools. It is non-commercial and the only school garden resource in line with Australian Organic Standards. The program is written by acclaimed gardening author Lyn Bagnall best known for her twice published book “Easy organic gardening and moon planting.” Lyn will present on why organic cultivation is best for our children's health and the environment while providing a summary of the recently launched program being adopted by schools Australia-wide. The program consists of a set of 12 Lessons and on-line recipe book for children, plus comprehensive practical advice for teachers and supervisors. It covers how to establish your school garden and all aspects of organic gardening that show children how to grow nutrient dense, delicious food while having fun and keeping their gardens virtually pest-free and more tolerant of climate extremes. By sharing, in a practical way, our knowledge of sustainable cultivation, we provide the younger generation with the skills and confidence they will need to produce delicious, healthy food for an increasing population on a changing planet,” says Lyn. Leonie has pioneered a scheme of Edible School Gardens and has successfully implemented this into 15 schools already. She will show: how to get this happening within your schools; discuss the importance of this for our children's future; and show some lovely examples of her work in action and the benefits the kids are getting. We slice and dice placentas and umbilical cords and examine the chemical compounds in them’. The response is often one of disgust, which is unfortunate because, dissecting the human body tells us a great deal about what’s in it - and what shouldn’t be in there. So what’s in placentas and umbilical cords? Lots! This informative session explores: the hazardous chemical compounds found in the human body, particularly newborn babies and children; how they get in their; what makes kids and babies particularly susceptible; the health impacts we are now witnessing; how to identify harmful ingrediants in everyday consumer products; and some practical strategies for raising healthy children in a toxic world.Sarah and Dr Edward Kachab will be available after her session for one-on-one advice at stand number 130.
